COVID-19 School Announcements and Updates

Tuesday, December 15th .............

As of the Dec. 14th board meeting, the Scotland School District will implement the following mask recommendations for all home winter sporting events. We recommend but not require that all spectators wear masks and try to social distance if possible in the gym during the course of the event. We realize social distancing isn’t always possible and there are designated locations posted for all spectator groups. We thank you for doing your part to try to keep us all safe during this difficult time. If there is a change to this policy we will update this notification. Thank You!

Monday, November 30th .............

Due to increased COVID-19 cases and for the safety of the students, staff, and all families, we will be limiting attendance for all of the upcoming Christmas concerts this year.  Each family will be allowed four (4) people to attend each concert and will be asked to wear a wrist band that the school will provide.  Wrist bands will be sent home with students this week.  Hand sanitizer will be provided at the door and we ask that families sit together and observe social distancing guidelines as much as possible.  All concerts will be livestreamed on the school’s YouTube channel.  You can find the link on the school’s website and Facebook page.  As a reminder, the Elementary Concert is Tuesday December 1st, the Band Concert is Friday December 4th, and the Vocal Concert is Thursday December 10th.  All concerts start at 7:30pm.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Tuesday, October 26th .............

We are now allowing close contact to attend school on day 1, if no symptoms and wearing a mask all day, including sports.   This is a change in policy.

Covid-19 Return to School Plan Alteration

If a student is deemed a close contact, CDC guidelines of a 14-day quarantine are still recommended. The school will allow a close-contact student to attend school if the student has no symptoms and wears a mask all day. If at any point during the 14-day window the student develops symptoms or refuses to wear a mask, the student will be required to go home.

Also, Students and Staff as spectators are required to wear masks at home events during mask mandate, which expires November 9th.

Scotland School District will be extending it's mask requirement until the next School Board meeting on November 9th for all students and staff.  Conditions have greatly improved this last week since we went to this requirement and we are hoping to continue this to make sure students and staff are safe.  We however are allowing students to not have to wear masks at recess, PE class, and sports unless the student is under quarantine rules.  Thank you all for helping get this under control.

Mr. Hagedorn

Tuesday, October 6th .............

As a result of the special board meeting held last night there has been a change to the quarantine policy. The updated policy is specified below:

The Scotland School District will still recommend that any close contact identified by the South Dakota Department of Health/parent or guardian should quarantine for 14 days, but this will no longer be mandated if certain conditions are met. If a parent of a DOH identified close contact prefers that child quarantine at home, that student will be required to participate in his/her classes as prepared by the teacher.

1. If the positive person is wearing a face covering and the identified close contact is also wearing a face covering, the close contact will be permitted to come to school but will be required to wear a face covering, temp twice a day and social distance, including meal times for 14 days. If the close contact exhibits ANY symptoms of COVID-19 during this period they will be asked to complete the remaining 14 days at home, or until they are symptom free without medication for 24 hours, whichever is longer. The 14 day quarantine period will start the day following the date of the last contact with the positive case.

2. If the positive person is wearing a face covering but the identified close contact, or vice versa, is not wearing a face covering the close contact will be asked to quarantine at home for 7 days. On the 8th day, the close contact will be permitted to come to school but will be required to wear a mask, temp twice a day and social distance, including meal times for the remaining 7 days. If the close contact exhibits ANY symptoms of COVID-19 during this period they will be asked to complete the remaining 7 days at home, or until they are symptom free without medication for 24 hours, whichever is longer. The 14 day quarantine period will start the day following the date of the last contact with the positive case.

Students involved in extra-curricular activities will be required to follow these guidelines, face coverings included, as well in order to practice and participate. This is a zero tolerance policy and therefore, any student not complying with the above conditions will be immediately sent home to complete the remainder of his/her quarantine time.
