ImPact baseline concussion test August 5
For those in grades 7-12 that will be participating in a sport at Scotland middle/high school (must be 12 on the testing date) and who have not yet completed the ImPact baseline concussion test, it will be offered at the school computer lab on Wednesday, August 5, at 8:00 a.m. This needs to be done every year (change from previous years when it was required every other year). Many students took it in April and this is sufficient. It must be done before the first day of practice. Due to the number predicted that will need to take this, it would be appreciated if you contact Shaina Tycz at 605-583-2227 to schedule an appointment rather than doing it on August 5. If you have a question, contact athletic director Jim Kocer at 605-464-7743 or e-mail him at jim.kocer@k12.sd.us.

Scotland High School’s own Miss Tia Smith (Family & Consumer Sciences) and Mrs. Nicole Suurmeier (Arts & A/V) spent the last couple of days at the South Dakota Career & Technical Education (CTE) Conference in Brookings and are returning inspired and excited for the year ahead!
This year’s keynote challenged educators to “Choose Your Attitude—Choose Positive” and to “Make Excellence Your Average.” 🖤🧡
Miss Smith enjoyed connecting with fellow Family & Consumer Sciences teachers during roundtable sessions and learning more about the exciting new World of Work opportunities coming to SHS.
Mrs. Suurmeier toured behind the scenes at First Bank & Trust Arena, learning about sports broadcasting and the decision-making behind the arena’s impressive video displays. She also explored the innovative LED technology at Daktronics and toured the beautiful Oscar Larson Performing Arts Center.
🎉 During the conference, Mrs. Suurmeier was also recognized for five years of membership with the South Dakota Association for Career & Technical Education (SDACTE) and received her 5-year membership keychain.
We’re excited to bring back fresh ideas, new connections, and renewed energy as we prepare to welcome students for another fantastic school year. Here’s to making excellence our average! 🧡🖤

🌧️🎶 The Scotland Mayor has officially been PLAYED! 🎶🌧️ Rain or shine, the music plays on! 🎺🥁 Even in the rainy weather, our dedicated Scotland High School Band students didn’t let a few raindrops stop them from delivering the instruments to the Scotland Mayor. We sure appreciate the much-needed rain, and we’re especially thankful for our hardworking band members who kept the fundraiser rolling—even in the rain! ☔👏 Now it’s the Mayor’s turn to decide… 🎵 $35 – Move the instruments to another yard or business. 🎵 $25 – Choose who gets “played” next. 🎵 $50 – Purchase “insurance” to keep the instruments from making a return appearance!
