Yankton Middle School Wrestling Tournament Recap The Trapper Middle School wrestlers turned in a strong performance, stacking the podium with multiple champions and medal winners across weight classes. Leading the way with 1st-place finishes were Asher Mehlhaff, Eli Mehlhaff, Carson Reid, Aydden Trautmann, Soren Mattson, Riley Walloch, and Bentley Trautmann, all battling through tough brackets to claim gold. Earning 2nd place honors were Gatlin Furney, Ethan Mehlhaff, and Carson Pietz, each showing grit and consistency throughout the evening. Bringing home 3rd place finishes were Emersyn Bjorum, Colter Manas, and Lucas Walloch, while Edward Arcoren rounded out the medal count with a solid 4th-place finish. Overall, it was a great day on the mats for the Trappers, highlighted by depth, determination, and hard-earned success.

IRENE — The Scotland/Menno Trappers saw a late lead slip away as Irene-Wakonda outscored the Trappers 20–6 in the fourth quarter, pulling out a 50–41 win in boys basketball action Friday night in Irene.

Scotland/Menno controlled much of the game and carried a 35–30 lead into the fourth quarter, but the Eagles used a strong defensive push and timely shooting down the stretch to swing the momentum.

Hunter Yosten led the Trappers with 12 points and 7 rebounds, while Izayah Ulmer added 9 points, 6 rebounds, and 3 assists. Erick Buechler turned in a solid all-around effort with 6 points and 5 rebounds, and Hunter Clark chipped in 8 points. Inside, Micah Goering pulled down 8 rebounds and added 4 points, helping keep the Trappers competitive on the glass.

Despite the tough finish, the Trappers showed strong effort through three quarters and battled until the final buzzer.

The 5th Grade Boys Basketball team went 3–2 on the day at the Hanson Round Robin. These boys played great team basketball, showed huge improvement, and worked together from start to finish. Best of all—every single player scored a basket! 🏀👏 Game Results: • Win vs. Hanson – 21–12 • Loss vs. Canistota – 26–16 • Loss vs. Freeman/Freeman Academy – 25–18 • Win vs. Bridgewater-Emery – 24–11 • Win vs. Salem – 16–8 Great effort, teamwork, and growth shown by this group—keep it rolling! 💛🖤💛🖤

The Scotland/Menno Trappers varsity boys dropped a 49–66 decision to the Platte-Geddes Black Panthers in a hard-fought contest.

The Trappers stayed within striking distance early, trailing just 26–30 at halftime, but Platte caught fire in the second half, shooting 65% from the floor and an impressive 75% in the third quarter to pull away.

Offensively, the Trappers were led by Erick Buechler and Izayah Ulmer, who each scored 12 points. Ulmer also filled up the stat sheet with 4 assists and 5 rebounds. Hunter Clark added 8 points, along with 2 steals and 2 assists, while Micah Goehring contributed 8 points and 4 rebounds. Jarret Andretta chipped in 5 points, 4 rebounds, and 3 assists, providing steady play throughout the game.

In the JV matchup, the Trappers fell 30–40. Wyatt Fischer led the way with 11 points, followed by Adam Munkvold with 6 points and Riley Keppen with 4 points.

The Scotland/Menno Trappers girls basketball team picked up a strong 32–21 win over the Platte-Geddes Black Panthers, putting together a complete effort on both ends of the floor.

The Trappers controlled the game with relentless rebounding, finishing with an impressive 49 total rebounds, including 20 on the offensive glass, creating second-chance opportunities all night long.

Lexie McNinch led the way with a dominant performance, scoring 16 points, pulling down 20 rebounds, and adding 4 blocks to anchor the defense. Kailin Odens chipped in 7 points and 9 rebounds, while Emmalyn Heckenlaible added 6 points and 8 rebounds, helping the Trappers maintain control throughout the game.

It was a great team win marked by hustle, toughness, and effort from start to finish. Way to go, Trappers! 💪🔥

Last but not least, we want to congratulate Wayne Brunke on being inducted into the Howard Tablet SESD/LMVC Wall of Fame. Wayne Brunke has taught in the Delmont and Scotland school districts for a combined total of 33 years. During that time, he coached all levels of girls and boys basketball, leaving a lasting impact on countless student-athletes. Wayne coached with passion, always striving to help each and every player perform at their fullest potential. He found great satisfaction in seeing players demonstrate the skills taught under his guidance. And as Coach Brunke always says, “Bounce pass is a safe pass.” Congratulations, Coach Brunke, on this well-deserved honor! 🏀👏
