Scotland/Menno Varsity Trappers Cling To Victory As Elkton-Lake Benton Varsity Blue Sox Nearly Erase 5-Run Deficit

Despite seeing their 5-run lead whittled down by the end, Scotland/Menno Varsity Trappers still held off for an 8-6 victory on Wednesday. Elkton-Lake Benton Varsity Blue Sox closed the gap by scoring on a single and a fielder's choice.
Riley Keppen collected three hits in four at bats in the win. Keppen doubled in the fourth inning, singled in the sixth inning, and singled in the third inning.
Elkton-Lake Benton Varsity Blue Sox opened the scoring in the top of the second thanks to two singles. Elkton-Lake Benton Varsity Blue Sox first got on the board when Colt Beck singled, scoring one run.
Scotland/Menno Varsity Trappers took the lead in the bottom of the fourth inning after Dylan Dvorak singled to the left side of the infield, and Keppen doubled down the left field line, each scoring one run.
Luke Bierle earned the win for Scotland/Menno Varsity Trappers. The pitcher gave up five hits and three runs over three and two-thirds innings, striking out six and walking one. Beck took the loss for Elkton-Lake Benton Varsity Blue Sox. The starting pitcher went five and two-thirds innings, allowing eight runs (six earned) on 10 hits, striking out two and walking two. Erick Buechler stepped on the hill first for Scotland/Menno Varsity Trappers. The hurler gave up three hits and three runs (zero earned) over three innings, striking out four and walking one. Lane Pavel appeared in relief for Scotland/Menno Varsity Trappers.
Scotland/Menno Varsity Trappers piled up 11 hits in the game. Hunter Clark collected two hits for Scotland/Menno Varsity Trappers in three at bats.
Aiden Myers and Beck each collected two hits for Elkton-Lake Benton Varsity Blue Sox. Jack Stein and Adam Kinner each drove in two runs for Elkton-Lake Benton Varsity Blue Sox. Beck stole two bases. Elkton-Lake Benton Varsity Blue Sox turned one double play in the game.
Next up for Scotland/Menno Varsity Trappers is a game against Tri-County Sundogs Varsity on Saturday.

Impact concussion testing
Students who will be in grades 7, 9, and 11 next school year (2026-27) and new students to the district who plan on going out for athletics plus all football players (12 years or older) no matter what grade you will be in, must do the ImPact testing. Students must be at least 12 on the day of the test. This is a baseline test which is used concerning concussion testing. This test (done in the high school computer lab near the library) will be done by Shaina Tycz on the following dates and times:
Next year’s 7th grade-Monday, April 27, 7:30 a.m.
Next year’s 9th grade-Tuesday, April 28, 7:30 a.m.
Next year’s 11th grade-Wednesday, April 29, 7:30 a.m.
Football players 12 years or older not in grades 7, 9, and 11-Thursday, April 30, 7:30 a.m.
Parents and students must sign the permission slip (given to students) and return it at the time of the test. Joanna Fergen placed 9th, and Alody Gramkow finished 11th.
On the boys’ side, Asher Sykora earned 3rd place, Parker Vaith placed 7th, and Brigham Rokusek finished 11th.
